Carrig Roan Restaurant Launch, Berehaven Lodge, Castletownbere

Castletownbere's newest seafood restaurant, The Roan Carrig has opened its doors at Berehaven Lodge. The Roan Carrig will see owners Fast Fish Ltd, including Directors Margaret Downey Harrington, Donal Kelly and Larry Murphy, introduce a new dining experience to customers with a straight from the boat policy with all ingredients locally sourced. The 72 seated seafood restaurant will be led by Head Chef John Byrne who brings more than 30 years of experience to the table. John has held a number of key positions in Ireland and the UK including Head Chef at the Brandon Hotel Tralee and Head of Food and Beverage Operations with Peugeot UK and Volkswagen and Audi UK. The name of the restaurant originated from the Roan Carrig lighthouse which is situated across the bay from the restaurant which enjoys spectacular sea views. Speaking of the opening of the Roan Carrig, Head Chef John Byrne said, "Castletownbere is one of the leading fishing ports in Europe so we are in a prime location to avail of the very best of seafood on a daily basis. Great pride is taken on where we source our food and how it is cooked and presented. Traditionally the best cuisine for any region is based on local produce that is available at a particular time of year so this is what directs our menus. We offer a wide variety of dishes to suit all tastes and look forward to welcoming locals and visitors alike over the coming months." Also speaking of the opening, Donal Kelly, Managing Director said “West Cork is well known for being a hub for fantastic food and we look forward to adding to this reputation with our varied menu, unrivalled hospitality and value for money at the Roan Carrig. We are setting out to give our customers something completely different and with our menus prepared by our outstanding chef John, genuine welcome from our waiting staff, and fish delivered fresh to the pier which can be seen from the restaurant, I think we have something very special to offer. The Roan Carrig is now open from Thursday to Sunday from 5.30pm.
