Ireland’s newest smartphone app Framed & Delivered will officially launch next week with a special fundraising campaign for sick children and their families. Framed & Delivered allows iPhone users to upload their favourite images to the app, choose a frame and write a caption before sending it to be printed and delivered to anywhere in the world for just €19.95. From December 1st to the 8th, €1 from every order will go directly to the Ronald McDonald House which provides comfortable accommodation to families of sick children in Our Lady's Hospital, Crumlin.
Well known Irish landscape photographer Giles Norman and his wife Catherine came up with the idea for the app last year on realising that they had thousands of precious memories stored away on their phones which were at risk of being lost forever.
According to a survey carried out on 1000 people by Framed & Delivered, Irish people have more than 1,200 images stored on their smartphones with 92% of people saying that many of these images are of sentimental value and deserve to be framed. 64% said they rely solely on their smartphones to capture special occasions, with over 85% of the images being of friends and family.
Three quarters of the respondents did not admit to indulging in selfie taking with 88% of those that do saying they would never frame one but would upload it to social media. Over 50% said that the loss of their pictures would be the worst part of losing their phone ahead of the material cost of the device or losing their contacts with 30% of people not bothering to back up their images!
Speaking on behalf of the Ronald McDonald House Charity, Marian Carroll, CEO (Volunteer), said, "We are hugely grateful for the support offered to us by Framed & Delivered. Our Ronald McDonald House provides a “home-away-from-home” for families so they can stay close by their hospitalised child. All funds raised through this campaign will help us build a new 50 bedroom Ronald McDonald House which we intend to open alongside the New National Children’s Hospital. Since opening the House this month 10 years ago we have provided accommodation, care and support for in excess of 2,500 families from all over Ireland and with the continued support of Irish people we can continue to do this for many more years to come."
Speaking of the launch of the app, Catherine Norman said, “We are really excited to launch Framed & Delivered to iPhone users and are looking forward to raising lots of money for the Ronald McDonald House from December 1st to the 8th. It is hard to believe that so many of us capture some of life's most precious memories with our phones but run the risk of losing them forever by not printing them off to admire. The app is also the perfect solution for sending a thoughtful gift to anyone anywhere in the world for just €19.95."
Sharon O'Mahony and her family used the Ronald McDonald House when her son Finn was being cared for, “The Ronald McDonald house was a home away from home in what was a very stressful and overwhelming period in our lives, coping with our newborn son Finn’s illness and treatment in Crumlin hospital. We will always be grateful to the incredible staff at the hospital and for the wonderful facilities provided for us at The Ronald McDonald House. Finn is now thankfully, a radiantly healthy young boy and a constant source of joy in our lives but the funds raised from this campaign can help many more families who may find themselves needing to use the Ronald McDonald facility.”
