Movie Junction Launch Drive for Animal Rescues

Ireland’s only drive in cinema, Movie Junction, Carrigtwohill launched their Halloween celebrations with the aid of Firkin Crane's 'Spooktacular' dancers and Keary's Mini yesterday. The special Halloween campaign encourages movie lovers to treat their pets and kids alike to the cinema this midterm break in a bid to raise money and awareness for two Cork animal rescue centres. Movie Junction which is celebrating 4 years in business this month will aid Glansillagh Animal Rescue, Glanmire and Community Cats Network, Midleton to pay mounting vet bills and running costs which are posing a severe threat to their future. The campaign also ties in with raising awareness for animal safety at Halloween when rescues become overcrowded with dogs and cats who are presented with burns from bonfires and fireworks and become lost due to fright. Speaking of the fundraising initiative, Ellie Redmond, owner, Movie Junction said, “We wanted to do something special to mark our 4th anniversary and what better way than to raise money for Glansillagh Animal Rescue and Community Cats Network which both do amazing work. Animal rescues are under extra strain at this time of year so we hope to raise awareness of their outstanding work while also highlighting the extra need to keep pets indoors and away from fireworks and bonfires this Halloween. Our aim is to raise as much as possible for the centres while creating extra fun for kids with cat face painting on Saturday 1st November. We also encourage them to dress up with their pets and teddies in Halloween costumes throughout the midterm and come along to enjoy Cork's unique movie experience.” Also speaking of the fundraising initiative, Barbara Bowles, Glansillagh Animal Rescue centre said “We are hugely thankful to Movie Junction for their help in raising money for our rescue. We rely on the public's generosity to keep the centre running which costs approximately €40,000 a year. Without these vital funds we will not be in a position to keep the service going. At present we have more than 30 healthy horses, dogs, puppies and cats looking for new homes and we hope this initiative by Movie Junction will help to educate children about animal welfare while treating them to an experience they will no doubt enjoy”. Emilie Peneau, Community Cats Network said, "Since 2012 we have seen over 2000 feral cats through our trap, neuter and return programme. The more money we can raise through fundraising the more cats we can neuter, look after and return to their habitat." Special fundraising tickets are available online from Movie Junction for €25 with €15 going to the charity or a donation of €4 per car will be given for regular tickets for screenings of Disney's 'Alexander and the Terrible Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day' and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on Thursday 30th and for Alexander and new release 'The Book of Life' on Saturday 1st November.
