Blog: Linkedin but not Cluedin!

I must admit that I may not be the biggest user of Linkedin ever. However, I keep my profile relatively up to date and I have optimised it to be recognised in searches for PR professionals, so although I'm not an expert I definitely do know what its purpose is, how it can be useful and how important it can be in raising ones business profile. So last week when I got an invite to connect with a 2nd degree connection who I had almost 40 mutual connections with I chose to accept - all normal I would have thought. However, ten minutes later I received a private message from this new connection saying "Hello x". Here's a screenshot of how the conversation went. Here you will also see my response; linkedin-pr-dmpr   I gave the culpritĀ in question the benefit of the doubt before blocking him, I was sure I would get some sort of embarrassed apology or explanation of some sort so I waited....and I waited (well not with my head in my hands, staring at the screen, waiting for a reply kind of way), but...you get the drift. No apology or explanation so I blocked him. I'm not going to go in to a checklist of what is and is not appropriate when using Linkedin but needless to say this type of business approach is definitely not appropriate or welcome! The moral of the story is if you wouldn't do it or say it in reality then don't do it or say it on Linkedin - or on any other social media platform! Perhaps he thought my name was "X" but the last time I checked - my name was Christine!
